Teal Window Shadow
Part of the Window Plant Shadows Series, this composition shows a hanging plant through a doorway, maybe to an outdoor patio area – the composition leaves some mystery about where this could be. It bounces off light of the interior of cool blue-green grey suggesting maybe late afternoon or early morning sunlight of pinky-yellow tones through the glass.
This collection of still lives explores light and shadow of the object as well as the environment in which it is portrayed. There is an interplay between interior against the exterior as the subject matter exists in the outside space however the shadow is cast inside. The walls, doors windows and implied curtains are important in creating this space. Rather than representing a realistic still life of the pot plant, the viewer is left to work out what type of plant it could be. A plant lover will gravitate towards a silhouette which is familiar to them and name it, hence the focus on the artwork title being about the colour and not the plant itself.
